FREE Boise Fair Housing Design and Construction Training May 15, 2014

Fair Housing Accessibility FIRST

Building professionals, architects and engineers have a unique opportunity to earn AIA continuing education credits and receive practical guidance on design and construction requirements under the Fair Housing Act. Boise will host experts from HUD-sponsored Fair Housing Accessibility First! on Thursday, May 15 in the Washington Group Plaza Auditorium at 720 Park Blvd.

Fair Housing Accessibility FIRST is an initiative designed to promote compliance with the Fair Housing Act design and construction requirements. The program offers comprehensive and detailed instruction programs, useful online web resources, and a toll-free information line for technical guidance and support.

Idahoans have a new resource to understand their rights, recognize discrimination and take steps to promote compliance. Idaho Housing and Finance Association (IHFA) recently commissioned a series of colorful animated messages to complement a statewide fair housing awareness initiative developed by the cities of Boise, Meridian and Nampa.

Access Means Business

Ramp Up Idaho began with a late 2012 Idaho Community Review team visit to a retail establishment in Eastern Idaho. One member of the group used a powered scooter, and the economic development professionals in the group realized that the step at the building entrance was not just a barrier to a wheelchair, but also to commerce and retail activity.
